EXCITING NEWS!

Our manufacturing partners just let us know that they’ve finished packing your EcoQube Sprouts, and have had them shipped out last weekend!
ETA?
Typically, containers will take around 45 days over sea to reach Georgia, and then one week to reach our fulfillment center by truck.
At that point, we’re ready to ship to your doorstep.
Our best estimate on ship date to you is currently 3rd - 4th week of August.
In the interest of getting every EcoQube Sprout in a fast and effective manner, we’ve decided to ship out EcoQube Sprouts as soon as possible on arrival.
For those of you who have ordered pre-seeded pads through Backerkit, we will have the Sprout pads first shipped to our office to be hand-packed, and from there will have them shipped to you.
However, each Sprout WILL come with a set of blank Sprout Pads meaning that you can get started right away with seeds of your choice and for anyone who ordered them, pre-seeded pads to be used shortly after.

Hey EcoQube Sprout backers!
We hope you all are off to a GREAT June.
As of our last update, the Sprout had completed manufacturing with our expectation being that we would be able to ship to you late June to early July.
However, although all of our prototypes worked perfectly, sometimes the production of thousands of units of products can lead to small differences between prototype and end-product.
A few weeks ago, our factory project manager caught a huge discrepancy in the injection molding (injection molding allows for the production of thousands of product versus just a few prototypes that are hand made).
Because the machine settings on the injection molding machines were changed to make the plastic pieces easier to take out of the mold, the holes for the acrylic bars that support the stacked Sprout are actually smaller than the acrylic bars we bought.
Rather than throw away all the injection molded Sprout trays, we've decided to source smaller 9.6mm acrylic bars and use the rest of our 10mm bars next time we make more EcoQube Sprouts.
Although we could have ordered smaller sized bars and shipped to you according to the previously discussed timeline, we wanted to ensure that we could properly test the new sized bars before delivering to ensure you receive the best functioning product possible.
One other obstacle that we’ve worked to overcome in production is that the seed pad manufacturer is encountering problems when manufacturing the Sprout seed pads according to current design.
Although prototypes had worked perfectly, when working to produce tens of thousands of seed pads with a different machine specifically designed to handle the order volume needed, the manufacturer found that we would have to slightly adjust the design to ensure longevity of the seed pads.
Our production manager believes that they will be able to complete manufacturing by the end of June through early July with Sprout arrival to our fulfillment center being August.
Although there are challenges associated with any product that gears up to be mass-manufactured from prototypes, we believe that with the updates we’re making, the Sprout will work much better for you than if we had shipped right away.

Hey Sprout backers!
We’ve got a LOT of news for you this update, are you ready? Because we are!
First, we wanted to talk for a little about the design process for the Sprout packaging…
Surprisingly, the most difficult part about the Sprout design process has been developing the cardboard box used to package your Sprout.
For the first time, we wanted to try using brown recycled cardboard with white and green ink, instead of having a white box with full-color print as you would see on the EcoQube C aquarium (pictured below).
It turns out that to do the colors, the printing facility has to mix up a color film that matches the color exactly.
So when we first asked for a sample, they gave us one that was printed by inkjet, which came out much darker than the color we wanted.
Eventually, after some follow-up by our wonderful factory project manager, Yolanda, the printing facility gave us a proper sample and promised the color would be the same in production as the design file we had sent her.
So, what’s next?
Final packaging for shipping (via cargo container) to our fulfillment center, followed by shipment to your doorstep.
We expect the cargo container to ship off to our fulfillment center in Georgia mid-May and arrive there mid-June.
For U.S. backers, you can expect to receive your pledge within a week of shipment from the fulfillment center, and non-U.S. backers can expect to receive your pledges in 2-3 weeks from when it is shipped out from the fulfillment center.
Finally… onto Backerkit!
If you haven’t yet had a chance to fill out your survey, we recommend you do so now! We use Backerkit’s system to process all shipments, and require your shipment information be entered there to ensure your pledge reaches you as quickly as possible.

Hey Sprout backers!
Happy March!
Can you believe that it’s March already? 2019 sure is flying by.
As mentioned in our previous update, tooling has been completed and we wanted to provide a little more insight into what that means in this update.
As you can see in the photo above, we have two “molds”. This is what the plastic is shot into to make the Sprout grow tray.
Essentially, the two mold halves above and put together, and plastic is injected inside.
You then separate the molds, and what’s left is the Sprout grow tray fully formed and ready for use!
We also have designs that are in the process of being finalized. Here’s a sneak peek at the design template we’re using for our seed-packets!

Finally, the timeline is still looking good to have units shipped to you by June - July as mentioned in our previous update!
Once manufacturing is complete, we will have units shipped over to our fulfillment center in Georgia, and send them out to you.

Remember when you used to hate broccoli back in middle school? We sure do
The good news is that as we’ve grown older, we’ve also grown to love it!
And to make things even better, there even exists micro-veggie versions of broccoli nowadays.
We’ve compiled some of the wonders these micro-broccolis can provide to you, and they’re completely rad.
Broccoli reduces chance of cancer
Sulforaphane, the sulfur-containing compound that's found in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetable is what gives them a bitter taste. This compound helps in inhibiting the enzyme histone deacetylase (HDAC), which propels the growth of cancer cells.
Having broccoli included in your diet can potentially save you from the threats of having lung, prostate, esophageal, melanoma and pancreatic cancers.
Broccoli's folate also aids in reducing breast cancer.

We think so, and that’s why it’s one of our favorite micro-greens to grow in the Sprout (but we really love them all).

There have been a LOT of exciting new developments that we have to share with you.
We’ve done extensive testing of the sprout pads to see which would perform the best.
Ruth, our product engineer, tested various types of sprout pads (as seen above) by soaking them in water to stress test them.
And here’s a quick timeline of a grow-test in action!

So, have you heard about the wall mount accessory?
We performed a stress test on various wall mount prototypes to ensure that they’d hold as much weight as possible and will be sturdy enough to hold the mass of the Sprout tray with pad and water.
Above, you’ll see trophies (weighing 4x of a Sprout filled with water) being held up in all their glory with ease.
And if you didn’t quite notice…
Check out the cool engraving we have at the bottom right of the Sprout! :)
We’re perfecting the Sprout each and every way that we can, so you’ll also notice that we drilled the holes to be larger and adjusted the drawing to 10.2 mm size.
This helps ensure that it can properly mount to the wall.
